15th Century House, Surrey

The property comprises a Grade II-listed 15th century yeoman's farmhouse near the centre of Redhill, Surrey. The building is a remarkable survival in the locality, not only as buildings of this period are scarce, but also because it predates the foundation and growth of the town from the early 19th century, thus giving an insight into the local pattern of building and land use in the medieval period.

In common with many other small hall-houses in Surrey, the building has a (surviving) internal jetty, providing extra floor space to the upper end chamber and an impressive feature within the hall.

Our instruction comprised analysis of, and a report on, various defects identified in a building survey by another surveyor, where it was felt by the owners that more specific comment was required in relation to historic building construction and appropriate remedies.
