Building History Research
This service is aimed at property owners who wish to learn more about the history of their property, which might include the date of construction, subsequent additions/demolitions, former owners and occupiers, historic usages of the property, land holdings and other facts that might either be specifically sought or might come to light. Information will be gathered from one or more site visits, along with local and national archival research of relevant sources, including title deeds, trade/street directories, historic maps and photographs, census returns, wills and other documentary sources.
After analysis and interpretation of the data gathered, the final report will form a narrative history of the property, illustrated with relevant photographs, drawings, map excerpts or other visual aids in piecing together the history of the property. The research element bears some overlap with that required for compiling Historic Building Appraisals, but this service is focussed more on the documented social history of the building and its occupiers, as opposed to the architectural history of the building and its significance.
